Munch Groups

What’s a MUNCH group? A MUNCH group is a social gathering for people who are involved in the Poly/BDSM scene. A MUNCH gathering often takes place at a restaurant over a meal, which is where the term originally came from in the 1980’s. Whether you are someone who occasionally practices the lifestyle, or you practice on a daily basis, or you are completely new to the scene and curious, this is a great place to meet others with similar interests.

Who this is intended for: A MUNCH group is intended for those who are Poly, or curious about Poly life, as well as the BDSM lifestyle. When searching for a group, pay attention to the type of MUNCH, the type is often listed, such as BDSM vs. poly munch.

If you are looking to meet people with similar interests, get together and talk about the lifestyle, ask questions, etc, then attending a MUNCH group is for you. MUNCH groups provide a safe and low key way to meet others in the community, and to learn and share thoughts, experiences, and ideas.

There is often a request that you dress in daytime/street clothing, and refrain from collars, leather vests, etc. The events take place in public places, and MUNCH groups overall like to stay respectful to those around the meet up. There is no cost, except for your food.

Locations and dates of MUNCH groups vary, depending on the organizers. Some organizers schedule MUNCH groups for every 3rd Saturday of the month, other organizers may have a more sporadic schedule.

MUNCH groups are often known for their safety, which is partly why MUNCH groups are held in public and typically in a restaurant. MUNCH groups emphasize the ability to merely talk with others, receive advice, accounts of experiences, plan for upcoming gatherings. MUNCH groups are not about dating, or being a spectacle in the middle of a restaurant. There is a level of decorum that you are expected to follow when attending a group. Each MUNCH has a host, or organizer who is often available for questions or to discuss concerns before, during, and after gatherings.
