Labia Minora
Labia Minora
Labia minora, or inner labia, are the smooth folds of skin that make up a part of the vulva.
Location Labia minora are located in between the labia majora (outer labia), and straddle the vaginal opening. At their topmost point, the inner labia meet the clitoral hood, and at their bottommost point, the labia minora meet the vaginal opening.
Aesthetics Labia minora are hairless and come in a range of different colors, shapes, and sizes. Some labia minora will protrude outside the labia majora, while other labia minora will be completely covered by the labia majora. Labia minora may also be so small as to appear non-existent. For some, labia minora are not completely symmetrical; meaning that labia may not look exactly alike.
Their function is to protect the vaginal and clitoral area and to keep it moist.
Pleasure Physiology Upon arousal, labia minora will fill with blood, become sexually sensitive, and can swell up to 3x the size they are when not aroused. Although every person enjoys different types of stimulation, dexterous movements like licking, stroking, sucking, tugging, vibration, etc. are all generally effective types of stimulation for the inner labia. Stimulating the inner labia may also result in indirect stimulation of the clitoris, as the clitoris is located at the top peak of the inner labia.
Representations of Inner Labia Within the realm of pornography, textbooks, how-to guides, and many other forms of media where vulvas are shown, the aesthetics of inner labia can be specifically chosen, edited by computers, or even altered by means of make-up. As a result, the wide range of variation for the aesthetics of inner labia is not often fully represented.
I don’t like the looks of my labia minora
It’s common for people to feel insecure or self-conscious about the appearance of their genitalia, but it’s important to remember that there is no one “normal” way that the labia should look. Every person’s anatomy is unique and there is a wide range of what is considered normal. If you’re feeling unhappy or self-conscious about the appearance of your labia minora, it may be helpful to seek out information and resources from trusted sources. This can include speaking with a healthcare provider, reading about female anatomy, or connecting with support groups or online communities. It’s important to focus on your overall health and well-being, rather than striving for an unrealistic standard of appearance.
Women Only
A man does not have a labia minora. The labia minora are specific to the female anatomy and are part of the vulva, the external female genitalia. In males, the equivalent anatomy would be the scrotum and the shaft of the penis. It’s important to understand and respect the differences in anatomy between males and females and to avoid comparing or striving for an unrealistic standard of appearance.
