Grooming

Grooming is the process of styling, trimming and/or removing body hair.

Personal Grooming

Personal Grooming is when a person decides to trim, style or remove their own body hair or choose to have their body hair removed in a non-sexual context. Reasons for personal grooming can include but are not limited to: higher sense of body-esteem, adherence to gendered expectations, habit, trying something new, consensually pleasing a partner, increased sensitivity to touch, etc.

Erotic Grooming

Erotic grooming is the act of trimming, shaving, waxing, or otherwise removing and/or altering a partner’s body hair either previous to sex play or as sex play. Erotic grooming can involve the complete removal of body hair, creating shapes or designs in body hair, or dying body hair colors different than the natural hair color. (Note: If dying genital hair, make sure that the dye being used is approved for that use.)

Important Note: Body hair maintenance falls within the purview of personal choice. For this reason, grooming should occur without coercion or pressure from a partner. Additionally, as items like razors can spread blood born STIs, sharing razors is not recommended.
