Cuddle Parties

Cuddle Parties

Viewed as nonsexual event, a cuddle party is a gathering of adults who experiment with affection, touch, and intimacy without a sexual connotation. Usually these adults socialize while touching, saying “yes” and “no” to touching depending on their comfort level. Individuals can cuddle independently or within the group context. There is usually a “cuddle lifeguard” on duty to ensure that the cuddle party stays true to its intentions. Icebreakers are often used in this environment so that members can begin to feel comfortable with each other.

Here, at Sex Therapy in Philadelphia, we offer our own version of a cuddle party. We call it a Sexuality Workshop. Essentially, a group of women gather together to learn how to be the best lover their partner ever had, and how to get the most out of sex! The first half of the workshop is focused on developing communication techniques. The second half is focused on learning the actual techniques. Imagine a swim coach who is discussing and critiquing form. Good sex is a combination of communication and technical skills. In this workshop, there are many ice-breakers to get the group going. We offer these workshops in Philadelphia, Washington DC, Baltimore, NYC, and Boston.

I Have Never Gone To A Cuddle Party Before And I Am Considering Going To My First Cuddle Party.  If you’re considering attending a cuddle party for the first time, it’s important to do some research and preparation to ensure that you have a positive and comfortable experience. Here are some cuddle party tips:

  1. Read about cuddle parties: Take the time to learn about what a cuddle party is and what to expect. You can find information online, such as on the official website for cuddle parties, as well as personal accounts and experiences from others who have attended these events.
  2. Find a reputable event: Look for a cuddle party that is organized by trained facilitators and has clear guidelines and rules in place. Make sure that the event is held in a safe and comfortable space, and that there are measures in place to ensure the physical and emotional safety of all participants.  We are biased, and will always refer you to one of our own sexuality workshops instead.
  3. Consider your comfort level: It’s important to be honest with yourself about your comfort level with physical touch and intimacy. If you are not comfortable with certain types of touch or activities, it’s okay to set boundaries and communicate your needs to others.
  4. Practice communication skills: Communication is a key aspect of a successful cuddle party. Practice saying “no” or “yes” with clarity and respect, and be prepared to communicate your boundaries and preferences with others.
  5. Be respectful of others: Remember that everyone attending the cuddle party is there for a positive and respectful experience. Be mindful of others’ boundaries and comfort levels, and seek explicit verbal consent before initiating any physical touch.

Attending a cuddle party can be a unique and positive experience for many, but it’s important to approach it with caution and respect for personal boundaries and preferences.

How Old Will People Be At A Cuddle Party?

The age of people attending cuddle parties can vary, but typically these events are open to adults over the age of 18. The organizers of a cuddle party may set age limits or other requirements for participation, such as requiring attendees to be comfortable with physical touch and communication.

It’s important to note that cuddle parties are often attended by people of diverse ages, backgrounds, and identities. Some attendees may be single, while others may be in committed relationships. The common thread among participants is a desire for non-sexual touch and connection with others in a safe and respectful environment.

If you’re interested in attending a cuddle party, it’s a good idea to check with the event organizers to learn more about the age range and demographics of previous attendees. You can also ask about any guidelines or expectations for behavior to help you determine if a cuddle party is the right fit for you.

What If I Am Aroused By Someone At A Cuddle Party?

It’s important to remember that cuddle parties are non-sexual events, and any sexual behavior or advances are not appropriate. If you find yourself becoming aroused during a cuddle party, it’s important to recognize that this is a normal physical response, but it’s important to control your behavior and respect others’ boundaries.

If you feel comfortable, you can communicate your feelings with the person you are cuddling with and discuss how to move forward in a way that respects both of your boundaries. You can also step away from the situation and take a break to calm down and refocus your attention on the non-sexual aspects of the cuddle party.

It’s important to remember that consent is a key aspect of a cuddle party, and any physical touch should be explicitly agreed upon by all parties involved. If you feel uncomfortable or unsure about a situation, it’s important to speak up and communicate your boundaries with others.

If you find that you are consistently becoming aroused or struggling to maintain appropriate behavior at cuddle parties, it may be best to refrain from attending these events until you feel more in control of your impulses.  Sometimes these feelings that come up are normal, and sometimes they are indicators of something more.  We encourage you to speak to a sex therapist today.
