Vaginal Contraceptive Ring (NuvaRing)

The vaginal contraceptive ring, a type of hormonal birth control, is a flexible ring worn inside the vagina, designed to prevent pregnancy.

How Long It Lasts: The ring should be worn for 21 days, and removed for 7 days. Menstruation will occur during the 7 days the user is not wearing the ring.

Maintenance: The user will squeeze the ring and push it up into the vagina until it rests just below the cervix. For some users, correct placement of the ring requires practice. If placed correctly, the user should not be able to feel the ring while it is in place, and the ring does not need to be removed for three weeks. Although the ring can be left in during penis-vagina sex, some users prefer to remove it. So long as the removal does not last longer than 2 hours each day, this is an acceptable practice.

Ring Specific Concerns: If the ring is not placed correctly, users may experience discomfort. If left in place, some find the ring uncomfortable during penis-vagina sex.

Effectiveness: The ring is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy when used correctly.

Note: The ring does not protect the user from Sexually Transmitted Infections.
